Meeting: | 79 |
Specs Code: | R |
Comments: | The Committee reviewed data published since the sixty-eighth meeting in 2007, focusing in particular on data of relevance to the safety assessment of the use of carrageenan (but not processed Eucheuma seaweed) in infant formula. [...] The Committee concluded that the use of carrageenan in infant formula or formula for special medical purposes at concentrations up to 1000 mg/L is not of concern. The Committee recognized that there is variability in medical conditions among infants requiring formulas for special medical purposes that contain the higher levels of carrageenan, and the Committee noted that these infants would normally be under medical supervision. |
