The datas from:

1.Evaluations of the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives(JECFA)

Summaries of all the evaluations of flavours, food additives are extracted from JECFA. Each summary contains basic chemical information, ADIs/TDIs, links to the most recent reports and monographs as well as to the specification database, and a history of JECFA evaluations.

2.CODEX GENERAL STANDARD FOR FOOD ADDITIVES(GSFA) ONLINE DATABASE.

Codex General Standard for Food Additives(GSFA) sets forth the conditions under which permitted food additives may be used in all foods, whether or not they have previously been standardized by Codex.

The datas from:

1.Everything Added to Food in the United States (EAFUS)

The EAFUS lists of substances contains ingredients added directly to food that FDA has either approved as food additives or listed or affirmed as GRAS. Nevertheless, it contains only a partial list of all food ingredients that may in fact be lawfully added to food.

2.FDA GRAS Notices

"GRAS" is an acronym for the phrase Generally Recognized As Safe. Under sections 201(s) and 409 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the Act), any substance that is intentionally added to food is a food additive, that is subject to premarket review and approval by FDA, unless the substance is generally recognized, among qualified experts, as having been adequately shown to be safe under the conditions of its intended use, or unless the use of the substance is otherwise excepted from the definition of a food additive.

3.Indirect Additives used in Food Contact Substances

The datas from the indirect additive database is generated from an application maintained by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) under an ongoing program known as the Priority-based Assessment of Food Additives (PAFA).In general, these are substances that may come into contact with food as part of packaging or processing equipment, but are not intended to be added directly to food.

4.FDA TOR Notices

The Threshold of Regulation (TOR) exemptions database lists exemptions that have been issued under 21 CFR 170.39 Threshold of regulation for substances used in food-contact articles.

5.FEMA GRAS Flavors

The FEMA GRAS program began in 1959 with a survey of the flavor industry to identify flavor ingredients then in use and to provide estimates of the amounts of these substances used to manufacture flavors. The initial FEMA Expert Panel was established in 1960 beginning the Expert Panel’s evaluation of the safety of flavor ingredients that continues today. Then and now, the Expert Panel usually consists of six to eight members and over the years has been comprised of top experts in toxicology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, metabolism, and pathology.

Definitions of the labels that are found in the inventory are:

Label Definition
DOCTYPEAn indicator of the status of the toxicology information available for the substance in PAFA (administrative and chemical information is available on all substances):
ASPFully up-to-date toxicology information has been sought.
EAFThere is reported use of the substance, but it has not yet been assigned for toxicology literature search.
NEWThere is reported use of the substance, and an initial toxicology literature search is in progress.
NILAlthough listed as a added to food, there is no current reported use of the substance, and, therefore, although toxicology information may be available in PAFA, it is not being updated.
NULThere is no reported use of the substance and there is no toxicology information available in PAFA.
BANThe substance was formerly approved as a food additive but is now banned; there may be some toxicology data available.
MAINTERMThe name of the substance as recognized by CFSAN
CAS RN OR OTHER CODEChemical Abstract Service (CAS) Registry Number for the substance or a numerical code assigned by CFSAN to those substances that do not have a CAS Registry Number (888nnnnnn or 977nnnnnn-series)
REGNUMRegulation numbers in Title 21 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations where the chemical appears.

The datas from:

1.EU lists of Food Additives

This database can serve as a tool to inform about the food additives approved for use in food in the EU and their conditions of use. It is based on the Union list of food additives. This list is in Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008.

2.EU Lists of Flavourings

This database can serve as a tool to inform about the flavouring substances approved for use in food in the EU and their conditions of use. It also contains those flavouring substances which may currently remain on the market until the risk assessment and authorisation procedures have been concluded. The information in the database is based on the Union list of flavourings and source materials as laid down in Part I of Annex I of Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008.
